DAVE IS FEATURED IN THE WHAT'S YOUR GOLD VIDEO (BELOW). READ ON TO LEARN MORE ABOUT HiS STORY.
What’s your gold? Why is this your gold? What does it mean to you?
My gold this time was to train quickly to run a half marathon, with two weeks notice. My long-term goal is to stay in great shape so that I can run long races with short notice, and continue to participate in outside activities well into my retirement years. I want to be able to ski, hike and run with my children and grandchildren.
What is one struggle you encountered along the way?
One struggle I encountered along the way was staying motivated to get up early and run in the dark, cold and rain, before work, when most people have not yet gotten out of bed.
I have recovered from a couple of surgeries in the last two years, as well as rehab, and to perform strenuous activities remains challenging as I age. Long term the struggle for me is to stay healthy and avoid injury.
What is one breakthrough you encountered along the way?
One breakthrough I encountered along the way was being encouraged by family and friends. This kept me motivated and I knew I could do it.
What is something you learned or that you will take away from the process?
Through this process I learned that there are people who have to overcome great difficulties every day. Most of our challenges are trivial compared to folks who have to overcome serious injury, disease or disaster. Look to those who accept this challenge and take strength from it.
